Here’s the good news. You do not have to send in the unit if it malfuncitons. All Ozone generators were built to be repaired by the user. All it takes is a phillips screwdriver and about 10-15 minutes of time. For obvious reasons, do not do repairs when the unit is plugged in the AC outlet. Unplug the unit before doing any work to avoid shock.
To open the unit, remove the back cap. There are two screws holding it in place. Once the screws are removed, the cap lifts off, and you will see the fan tube. There is nothing dangerous when disassembling the unit. If there is a broken plate inside, you will want to remove the broken pieces for safety sake.
Learning to disassemble the unit is helpful. Every ozone generator will eventually need to have the plates replaced.
There is one other important screw that holds the handle in place. Only the rear screw needs to be removed. The whole assembly is build on a plastic plate that will then slide out of the box. The only issues when removing is to make note of the wire connections. Use tape and label the wires if you are concerned about re-assembly.
So, there is only three screws to remove. The assembly will slide out the back for any needed repairs.
You will find the fuse is located on the back of the unit. It is rare that the fuse would blow, but if the unit is not working at all, replace the fuse with a 2-5 amp fuse.
During disassembly, one of the fuse connections leads to the switch at the top of the case. It will need to be detached from the fuse end. There are two wire nuts making connections. These generally do not need to be disconnected to slide out the inner unit. If there is tension, the wire nuts unscrew to release the wires.
These units are compact. So, you may find the AC wire is tight during removal or re-assembly. Use modest effort to slide the unit out beyond the AC wire to expose the full unit. 90% of the time, the repair needed is replacement are the ozone plates. These are the white, flat items (2 plates are used) near the front of the unit.
You will see a metal plate retainer is held in place with a screw and nut. To replace the plates, you need to remove the retain piece. The plates will simply pull out. There are two stubs on the plate that pull out. Insert the new plate(s) with the ridges up and the solid side down, but that is not a critical matter. Plates work in either position.
If the fuse is blown, both the fan and ozone units will not work. If the fan runs, but ozone is not produced, the problem could be the transformer (gray block with wires coming out both ends). This is rare, but diagnosis is simple depending on whether the fan is running by the plates do not light up. To replace the transformer, you will need to remove the transformer (two screws and nuts) and replace it. The transformer is easily disconnected from the AC by the wire nuts, and the two larger red wires must be soldered into place.
If you are not prepared to replace the transformer, you could send it in. However, it is easier to locate someone with a little knowledge of soldering and have the transformer replaced. Transformer failures are rare, but fortunately you can order the parts and repair our units with just a modest effort.
Broken plates happen in shipment or if the device is dropped from a high distance. Plates are durable, but replacing plates is the one thing you will want to know about. Replacing the plates annually will allow the unit to stay at top performance.
We assemble All Ozone units to be “Reparable by the Owner“. The cost of shipping and delays in the process are frankly unnecessary. Ozone generates use a fan, transformer, and ozone plates. Ozone plates are actually a consumable as far as we are concerned. Like a light bulb, they will need repaired from time to time. Plates can last two years depending on use.
Although our ozone plates are corrosion resistant, high humidity, dust, and abuse can cause a failure. Therefore, rather than buying a new ozone generator when the unit is not performing well, it is best to learn to replace the plates. Ozone plates are 95% of the ozone generator issues you will encounter. We think this should be done once a year.
