If your company is in the mold remediation business, you need to know more about ozone generators.  Ozone does kill mold and affects mold spores so the cannot spurolate, or render them unable to reproduce.  Though there are some critics to question the use of ozone for mold remediation, there are hundreds of mold professionals successfully using ozone machines now.  So, the evidence for mold remediation by ozone is not only lab-proven, it is proven in thousands of mold treatment cases each year.

The caveat is that mold destruction requires a high level, or high PPM, of ozone for the best effect.  So, 90% of the ozone generators on the market are not effective.  According to the EPA, ozone levels of 12-18 PPM are required for an effective mold kill.  The 20 minute decay cycle of ozone means that smaller ozone generators cannot reach ozone shock level or sustain it.  Worse yet, some ozone generator companies suggest leaving a window partially open to introduce fresh air (like Maxblaster suggests).  Big mistake.  Fresh air introduces humidity, which hurts ozone production, and dilutes the PPM.  No wonder these small and antique technologies are criticized.

For best application, pre-treat the facility to create ozone shock level first.  This minimized the odor, the free-floating spores, and kills exposed mold.  Then, go to work on the remediation process.  Even dead mold and mold spores can be allergenic and toxic, so use proper personal protection equipment.  When the tear out is done and the wood is exposed, an intermediate treatment when workers are gone for the night can now reach the behind-the-wall areas.  Finally, to insure a successful final mold test, treat the facility one last time.

Normal precautions apply.  Do not use ozone generators when people or pets are present.  Post signs at entries to warn any unexpected visitors.  And, let the area air-out for 30 minutes after ozone has been used.  Ozone is not a substitute for a moldicide, physical tear out and mold removal, or treating mold-infested materials.  Ozone can be used in tandem with good remediation processes to provide a safer workerplace, insure a better mold kill, and improve final results.
