Maintenance for Ozone Machines

Ozone PlatesOne of the seldom asked questions is maintenance on an ozone machine.  Over time, any ozone machine will decrease in ozone production, and there are reasons for that.  Ozone machines produce heat and ozone.  Both are somewhat detrimental to the equipment.  Heat ages things, and ozone is an oxidizer, so expect that some parts will fail.  It may not happen often, but anyone can expect to deal with repairs on their equipment.

The most common repair is the replacement of the ozone plates.  These are the parts that cause the corona arc, so that is the focus of heat and high-levels ozone.  Think of ozone plates like a light bulb.  They are meant to run a long time, but they will eventually fail.  This is to be expected, and the value of your ozone machine is the ease of repair required to maintenance common parts.

Replacing plates will require you to open the machine.  Make sure to unplug the unit.  The ozone plates will either plug free with two prongs or there will be a solder connection for the plates.  Solder is always considered a superior connection to friction fit.  This is especially true of high-voltage connection, which apply to ozone plates.  So, you will probably need to know how to open up the unit, access the plates, and replace them.

How often do you need to replace plates.  In most cases, manufacturers say about every year or two depending on use.  The average person may only use an ozone machine a few times a year, so this can be misleading.  A professional using an ozone generator almost every day for long treatments of 4-8 hours may expect that he should examine his equipment quarterly.  If any ozone plate is not fully glowing, there are two choices.  One is to clean the plate with rubbing alcohol.  The second is to replace the plates.

This should bring your unit up to full performance.  But, not that running equipment in dusty or high-humidity areas will cause plates to age more quickly.

If the plate(s) do not light at all, the problem may be the transformer.  This is a little more work but not much.  Remove the screws holding the transformer, and snip or desolder the wires.  Then, replace the transformer and solder in the wires like they were oringinally assembled.  Take pictures if you need a reference for the project.

All Ozone stocks all parts you may need for these common repairs.  We also have videos that will walk you through the process.
