Ozone and Odor Removal

Questions always arise about how well ozone works to get out odors.  The answer is that it works wonderfully well.  Most odors happen at a molecular level where bacteria breed and colonize.  Ozone works to kill the bacteria, and it breaks down the biofilm that sustains the bacteria.  Ozone will oxidize the source of the odors as well, but there are limits to what ozone will do.

One reason that ozone isn’t 100% effective is a failure to fully clean the source or remove the underlying cause of the problem.  So, pet urine is a deposit of ingredients that have accumulated over time.  Ozone works from the outside-in, so it is not able to erode the deepest levels of the urine deposit.  The best advice is to pre-treat these areas with an enzyme or probiotic that will eat away the solids.  This pre-treatment will allow ozone to treat the much broader problem because these odors permeate the facility.  Ozone is good for treating large areas.

When it comes to car, vans, or RVs; ozone is very good to neutralize most odors.  Smoke odor is most common, and ozone will do a great job there.  Some odors can be embedded in the foam of the seats or base of the carpet.  It could take more than one ozone treatment to get into the deeper odor threats.  Again, cleaning and pre-treating (as necessary) ozone is the broad-application solution that reaches into all part of the car, home, office, workplace.

Typical applications can be 2-6 hours in length, and the size of the ozone generator should be appropriate for the area being treated.  If you have any questions, give our office a call.
