Ozone Generator MistakeLet’s start with an easy quiz.  What is wrong with this picture of the owner of MaxBlaster treating a car for odors?  Well, beside the obvious that this low-output unit is pretending to be a real ozone generator … what stands out for those who understand how ozone works? Well, here’s a little science to help out.  This is a corona type machine first of all.  And, we know that the higher the temperature and humidity, the less the ozone any unit will produce.  So, if it is the recommendation of MaxBlaster to pipe in the ozone from the outside, you’d better do it on a cool, low-humidity day.

This picture is typical of promoters who want to sell their equipment even though they know very little about the subject.  We see other companies making the same mistake.  While this configuration will work, it is poorly thought through.  The hotter the summer or the further south you go, the worse the humidity will be.  Over 60% humidty, and the ozone production can drop by half.  With the low output of these kinds of generators, it’s a wonder that they could clear out any serious odor problem.

The next lesson is the PPM required to do the job.  While we hear people talk about ozone shock, we must wonder how these small machines can get to a 6PPM ozone level unless they are treating closets.  Companies can claim that their ozone generator puts out copious amounts of ozone.  It is entirely possible, that claims of 14,000 mg/hr are purely a marketing ploy because no one has tested their equipment via an independent source.  So, they can make any claim they believe will help them sell more machines to gullible customers.  

When it comes to treating a car or truck, we suggest that the vehicle should be running, AC on, and blowers at high speed.  Put our 14000 mg/hr unit INSIDE THE CAR, and it will blast ozone through the whole system.  It may be foolishly argued that the ozone generator will starve for oxygen since their is no fresh air supply.  Time for another ozone science lesson.

Ozone reverts back to oxygen in 20 minutes, but some ozone discharges the third atom even faster.  The actual decay of ozone is happening minute by minute.  Only a small percent of the unattached, free-floating ozone molecule may last twenty minutes.  So, oxygen is constantly available to the ozone generator.  The concentration of ozone (calculated in PPM for Parts per Million) looks like a bell curve.  Ozone levels build to a certain level, then drop off.  If the machine cannot make ozone fast enough, the PPM will plateau prematurely and fail to reach “Ozone Shock Level”.

Science aside, don’t bring a knife to a gun fight.  Or, don’t use an small ozone generator (the wrong way) if you want to do a professional job.  All Ozone builds reliable ozone generators with ozone output proven by independent testing.  They are durable, reliable, safe, and have serious ozone output.  So, before you buy anywhere else, ask them if their equipment has been certified by the National Ozone Association.  If not, why not?
